Our vision is that people in the UK have access to more and better coverage of global issues and are able to find it eaily through their favourite media. The aim of our advocacy is to achieve this vision.

For more than 30 years we have used our experience and research to represent our members’ interests at key moments, including BBC Charter and Channel 4 licence renewal, public service debates and scheduling negotiations. As financial pressure and consumer choice grow, it has never been more important to ensure that mainstream media don’t just report on the top news story of the day but also reflect a range of stories from around the world.

Submission from the International Broadcasting Trust (IBT) and the University of Leeds to Ofcom’s Designation of Public Service Broadcaster Internet Programme Services

We believe the proposed methods do not go nearly far enough in understanding the nature of the IPS platforms seeking designation, the algorithms used, and how they can meaningfully create public service environments. We propose that PSBs should be required to set out the values, principles, and priorities underpinning their IPS platforms and informing the development and deployment of algorithms and recommendation systems.
